This watch is absolutely fantastic for the price, competing with the higher brands at a lower price. The watch has a very high quality aluminum shell, with gold and maroon accents all along the top giving it a formal look whilst hinting at something expensive (though since this watch cost under $25, this is not the case). The dials are easy to adjust and reset, but you shouldn't even need to adjust them as the watch came with the right date and almost the right time, although the minute hand was off by a few minutes.
The glass covering the dials seems to be of some quality, and I have dropped the watch several times face down without it breaking or cracking, ready to be picked back up and put on without a smudge or dent in sight. Inside of the glass shows off the beautifully accented maroon and gold. Being very familiar with manual movements I knew what I was getting into. I'm very happy with the quality and accuracy of this watch. Actually bought two, and they both keep time extremely well. It's too soon to tell if these Russian timepieces will replace the great Timex's of yesteryear ( not to be confused with what wears that name today ) but at these prices its not much to risk.
The manual wind movements of our better times had character and inspired owner loyalty. Something that a microchip will never do. This watch has held up amazingly to over a month of constant work. I've since regulated the watch and have it running within +/- 7 seconds per day.I would recommend researching vostoks before buying one as they have unique quirks across their entire history starting in the Soviet union in 1942. Their crown always feels like it will fall out as there is a clutch that disengages from the mechanism to prevent damage should you drop it while winding. The calendar has a date set shortcut, but it doesn't occur at the push of a button. And the bezel is hit or miss.Overall vostok is a great entry level timepiece and I would recommend them to anyone, ESPECIALLY over Rolex.
Stick with Bulova and Breitling for that price range. Loved the packing box with all the Cyrillic Russian writing. Loved the Russian newspaper used as filler. I saved both. Came with a piece of Russian chocolate that I gave to my wife. Like being a Russian tourist without all expense and hassle. The watch well, if you want fashion spend 4K on a Tag.
If you want to impress your friends spend 14K on a Rolex. However if you want a cool piece of wearable Russian history that tells time then this is it.
The price is awesome. Unlike James Belushi in the movie Red Heat, you don't have to get rid of your expensive watch to get one. Owning 50 plus watches, mostly Seiko divers and Baby Monsters along with Swiss Army, Wenger,Victorinox Chronos in addition to assorted Pulsars and Casio's, I know my way around wristwatches. I bought this with eyes wide open.less than $30 and made in China. That being said it's a pretty cool watch.the face is large, a full two inches from the 9 o'clock position to the crown, it's 3/4 of an inch thick.
The bezel is stationary, the interior bezel ring could function as tach meter to the experienced user. The band is 24mm and made of rubber/silicon with two keepers, metal inserts and an aggressive 'tire' molding,' it's comfortable. There are windows at the 12,3,6 and 9 o'clock positions.
The 12 o'clock is the hour or when you push the top right pusher.the month, it's also lapsed minutes in the stopwatch mode. The 3 o'clock window is the seconds or 1/10th. I have big, bony hands, so I like watches with big faces. I also like a certain complexity, because I need the functions. All my watches must have alarms. With this watch I like the hidden LEDs and the analog face.
It suits my taste. I replaced the strap with a heavier leather and larger clasp. It's a matter of taste, but it's a rare day when somebody doesn't make some remark about it. At this price, even if it lasts only a couple of years, it's a terrific buy. If it breaks, I will ready for the next generation, anyway. The customer support from the seller of these watches is excellent.
I got the first one with a loose hour hand. The refund was instant, as soon as I sent a picture of the faulty watch. The one I have now has worked flawlessly for several weeks.
